Movement is Everything: Javier Gómez on passing on the power of sport

Sport has shaped Javier Gómez Noya’s life. It has taken him around the world, challenged him at the highest level and given him experiences and friendships that extend far beyond competition.

Today, through his involvement with Pho3nix programmes in Spain, Javier is helping pass those opportunities on to a new generation.

“Sport has given me so much throughout my life. Being able to share some of that with young people through the Pho3nix programmes in Spain means a great deal to me,” he says.

For him, the impact isn’t about finding the next champion. It is about giving young people the opportunity to move, participate and discover what sport can bring to their lives.

“What I love most is seeing young people discover sport for themselves. You see them gaining confidence, making friends and discovering what they’re capable of. Those are experiences that can stay with them long after the session has finished.”

It is also why Javier’s advice to young people is refreshingly simple:

“Try to keep improving, keep turning up at the sessions, surround yourself with a nice group of people and just enjoy the sport.”

After a career spent competing at the very highest level, Javi knows that medals and results are only one part of what sport can give us. Movement can build confidence, create connections and open opportunities and sometimes the most important thing is simply turning up and enjoying it.

For Javier, helping more young people experience that is a legacy worth building.

Movement is Everything.
