Jorge Vega Lopez
Jorge began gymnastics late at the age of 8, when his mother brought them to the gym instead of daycare. While initially having no plans to go further in the sport, as he progressed and excelled he grew to believe there was a higher purpose to his involvement in the sport.
The Pan American and Central American champion, Jorge has received a Peace Award (the highest sporting award given by the Guatemalan Ministry of Culture and Sports). He has also had a street and sports centre named after him in his home town of Jocotenango, where throughout this pandemic he has been donating bags of food and essentials to low-income members of the community as he awaits opportunity to compete and seal his qualification for Tokyo.
Turn disadvantage into a blessing. The first step to achieving great things is to believe in oneself.
