Greg began throwing shortly after he could walk and started competing at age 7, coached by his father Neville Thompson. He placed 10th at the 2013 European Junior Championships and won the British Junior Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put Championships. Soon after his 20th birthday, he beat his father’s 55.68-metre throw. In 2019, he cracked the 65-metre mark with a 65.56 to achieve the fourth-longest throw in British history.
Greg has balanced studies in kinesiology and philosophy at the University of Maryland with competing in the NCAA as well as for British Athletics
